CFP Handbook and Conference Visual Psychology

CALL FOR PAPERS FOR HANDBOOK AND CONFERENCE IN VISUAL PSYCHOLOGY

We are inviting submissions for the FIRST handbook and conference in Visual Psychology with the working title of:

Visual Psychology: Interdisciplinary arts-based and visual research and activism in Psychology

This book and conference aim to establish Visual Psychology as a specific area of research and public engagement bringing together scholars and activists to share their learnings.

We have approached the publishing division of one of the world’s leading Universities, which has shown interest and have requested a full book proposal with abstracts from each author. We have, therefore, launched this call for papers for this book and for a connected (free) conference. Submitting authors will have the option to submit their papers to both the book and the conference, or to either the book or conference.

PLEASE SUBMIT YOUR ABSTRACT WITH A WORKING TITLE HERE

Abstracts submitted must between 250-300 words. Accepted book chapters must be between 5000-8000 words (excluding references but including foot/endnotes and tables) and preferably include at least one image. The full chapters will be due by the end of 2021.

The Call for Papers welcomes interdisciplinary submissions but authors will be asked to indicate how their visual work is relevant to, or intersects with, (Visual) Psychology in terms of method and/or focus/topic. Authors should consider the following main thematic areas when submitting their proposal for the book and/or conference:

  • Historical/theoretical framing
  • Ethical considerations
  • Methodological innovation
  • Practical and technical considerations and reflections (including processes/procedures)
  • Integrating the written with the visual
  • Analysing visual data
  • Examples of Visual Psychology studies (content driven more than process-focused)
  • Engagement/dissemination/advocacy/activism in Visual Psychology

DEADLINE FOR ABSTRACT SUBMISSION IS 10th MAY 2021

ONLINE CONFERENCE DATES ARE 23-24th SEPTEMBER 2021 (TBC)
