Breaking the chains prize and nomination

Good news!! Breaking the chains has received a Rotary prize from Italy  and has been nominated by the Richard Werbner Award for Visual Ethnography for ‘works that explore the distinctive capacity of the film to complement and enhance anthropological knowledge communicated through text’ .

Thanks to all of you who have and are supporting this work, I hope to continue doing more work in this area, in Indonesia and the other several countries with similar practices, grazie!

During this event organized by East London Psych Film Club, Dr Erminia Colucci will be showing three projects where she used film as a participatory/collaborative method to create stories about lived experience of mental illness, suicidal behaviour and recovery.

‘Breaking the chains’ at Indonesia Kontemporer, Global Health Film Initiative (London) and World Health Summit (Berlin)

The next month is going to be a busy month for Breaking the chains, has it gets screened and presented at the Indonesia Kontemporer in London on the 8th October 2016, the World Health Summit in Berlin on the 11th October and the Global Health Film Initiative in London on the 11-12th November. Spread the word!

Also, we want to see the film and this important and urgent issue to be represented also at human rights festivals, please help us to get Breaking the chains also in these programmes if you can!

‘Breaking the chains’ part of the Royal Anthropological Institute collection

Yesterday the contract was signed and Breaking the chains has now officially been licensed (in a non-exclusive world-wide agreement) for distribution (DVD and online) through the Royal Anthropological Institute https://www.therai.org.uk/

This means that the film, and the stories and issues in it, will be archived in the biggest collection of anthropological films used for educational purposes, which contributes to this project’s original objective to increase awareness and educate about human right abuses against people with mental health problems.
